UCC28950: Tools to design Phase shifted full bridge converter with current double rectification

Part Number: UCC28950

Hello experts,

We are in a process of designing a phase shifted full bridge converter using UCC28950 controller and diode rectification in a current doubler configuration. The intended output voltage is 48Vdc at 300A. The converter will be derived through a three phase rectification(300Vdc-600Vdc). We found tools on the product page that supports only center-tapped rectification. Are there any design-tools for this controller which help to make a design in current doubler configuration?

  • Hello,

I don't have app note  for current doubler. It affects the transformer design, but the controller design is the same.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your swift response. It appears that we can utilize the same spreadsheet for this particular application as well. I'd appreciate your insights regarding the considerations we should take into account for the current doubler design. It's possible that the circuit involving the current sense pin might pose some design challenges.

Another query I have is related to the 28950 controller's operating frequency, as it doesn't seem to function below 50kHz, (as per datasheet) Can you recommend an alternative controller within the same family that can handle a converter switching frequency of around 40kHz?

    Regards

  • I don't realize Fs can't be below 50k, can you point out where you find this information?

First, the transformer is more efficient and less losses, but two inductors are needed and have more ripple.
