Looking for suggestion on BMS setups.

Hi All,

I have an unusual requirement for my battery packs. The pack will be based on some variant of Li-Ion 21700 cell and have cell count of 6S and 12S, with few in parallel. I need help picking the appropriate fuel gauge, balance and protection systems.

Fuel Gauge: Must report usual values; state of charge etc, individual cell voltages and current of up to 100A.

Balancing and protection: This is what stumps me, for reasons too long to discuss here, I need a part that allows over discharge protection to be enabled/disabled on demand.

The application intends to utilise battery packs in a safe manner but prioritises equipment function over battery pack health. I know that this can damage the battery pack and I am willing to make that sacrifice.

Is anyone aware of any candidates that can do this?

Alternatively I could implement additional control signal that would force charge and discharge mosfets to stay ON when critical work is in progress.

Best wishes,

Kam

  • Hi Kam,

Our highest cell count gauge with integrated protection is 6S. This is the BQ40z80

We do have a top of stack gauge which will essentially serve for gauging, but it will require a monitor with protection. This top of stack gauge can be configured for up to 18S I believe. The gauge is BQ34z100-R2. The recommended stackable monitor for this is the BQ76952
