TPS6594-Q1: orderable partnumber for J7 EVM

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VM

Hello TI,

we have built a prototype board for the TDA4VM based on the J7 EVM (PROC078A) using the PMICs TPS659413 and TPS659411 (previously orderable as PTPS659411F0RWERQ1 and PTPS659411F0RWERQ1).

We are currently starting to develop a series application for the TDA4VM using PDN-0C as recommended,

but we need to produce some additional prototype boards as described above.

Can you provide us with orderable part numbers for the two PMICs that fit PROC078A, or alternatively the part number for an unprogrammed device including the binary images to configure the parts ourself?

Regards, Peter

  • Hello Peter,

those part numbers for TDA4VM have been phase out and replaced with new ones as you've seen on the PDN-0C.

    TPS65941213-Q1

    TPS65941111-Q1

These are the part numbers on the EVM you requested.

  • Hello Nicolas,

I´m well aware of the fact that the components you mention are intended to be used for new designs as this is what we are doing.
But in parallel we want to assemble a few boards (not hundreds) with the old design.

Unfortunately the new components are not compatible:

TPS65941111-Q1 seems to be quite similar to PTPS659411F0RWERQ1 concerning the supply output topology, there are only slight differences in GPIO usage.
Major topic is TPS65941213-Q1 with is programmed to build a 3-Phase Buck supplying VDD_CPU  and thus cannot be taken as replacement for PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 using a 2-Phase buck for VDD_CPU.

So is it possible that you share the binary images of PTPS659411F0RWERQ1 and PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 so we could configure the parts ourself onboard via I2C?

    Regards, Peter

  • Hello Peter,

thank you clarifying the situation this greatly helps me understand your needs. Yes, there were changes in GPIO from an external perspective but also changes at the system level with these parts.

I can provide that, the binary files, but I want to check in with my team in terms of support, bundle, etc.

I don't want to leave you without any support just because the devices you intend to use.

    BR,

    Nicholas

  • Hello Peter,

so we can not provide PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 nor PTPS659411F0RWERQ1 replacement binaries as the silicon has undergone improvements since then, but we do provide drop in devices labeled as PTPS65941310RWERQ1 and PTPS65941111RWERQ1 as replacements, respectively.

We can provide those as samples if you'd like.

An optional BoM change would be that the resistors on the SPMI lines are no longer needed.

    I await your reply,

    Nicholas

  • Hello Nicolas,

    so let me summarize:

    • PTPS65941310RWERQ1 can be used as drop in replacement for PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 which is programmed as PMIC-A with two-phase buck for VDD_CPU as described in SLVUBR0.
--> I would appreciate to get 10 samples of PTPS65941310RWERQ1 as this would cover the amount of boards we need to produce with this old design.
    • PTPS65941111RWERQ1 can be used as drop in replacement for PTPS659411F0RWERQ1 which is programmed as PMIC-B as described in SLVUBR0.
--> Can you approve that PTPS65941111RWERQ1 is similar to the orderable partnumber TPS65941111RWERQ1 which we already have in stock. If not, I would also need 10 samples of PTPS65941111RWERQ1

    Regards, Peter

  • Hello Peter,

We can provide samples, but understand that these samples are only a stop gap for those using the old layout, anything past samples we can not provide for PS65941111RWERQ1 and PTPS65941111RWERQ1.

And yes you can use TPS65941111RWERQ1 as a replacement for PTPS65941111RWERQ1.

If you have an Field Applications Engineer, please contact him on the samples, if not please write back here and I'll speak the appropriate people.

Thank you for your patience on this matter,

    Nicholas

  • Hello Peter,

    I hope you get this notification, I meant for PTPS65941111RWERQ1 & PTPS65941310RWERQ1.

Understand, these chips are just a stop gap, we have moved on to a much improved designs for our TI processors

  • Hello Nicolas,

    many thanks for your support.

I understand well that the PTPS parts are just a stop gap.

So I will use PTPS65941310RWERQ1 as gap stop replacement for PTPS659413F0RWERQ1.
Our purchase department already got in contact with our TI FAE according the samples for PTPS65941310RWERQ1.

As well I will use TPS65941111RWERQ1 as gap stop replacement for PTPS659411F0RWERQ1.

In parallel we are designing new boards according to PDN-0C, using TPS65941213-Q1 and TPS65941111-Q1 which we both already have in stock.

    Kind regards, Peter
