BQ76920: How to use a battery pack instead of separate battery cells?

Figure 9.1 of the technical sheet shows the connection of the battery cells, each one on a pin, can I use the 3 batteries inside a pack with this IC? How should I connect for this?

I see table 9.2 in the technical sheet but I don't understand if I need to use the 3 separate cells, or if I consider the pack as one, as my pack only provides me with 2 pins. How should I connect in this case?

Hello Pedro,

No, unfortunately this IC was made to interface with individual cells. So each cell input connects to an individual cell, so you'd need separate cells.

If your 3-cell pack has a voltage below 5-V, it could be possible to connect your pack as a single "cell". However, if your pack voltage is higher than this, the part cannot reliably measure its voltage, and eventually it would saturate.

Hello Pedro,

An IC that could do this would be the BQ34Z100-R2 device. This is a top-of-stack gauge, so it is able to provide a SoC or SoH of a pack.
