2S Li-ion protection with Over-Current protection

TI seems to have over-current protection for 1S and 3S+ Li-ion configurations. I am unable to find 2S over current protection IC for Li-ion batteries, though over-voltage and under-voltage options are available.

Are there 2S LI-ion over-current or short circuit protection IC from TI which are active in production ?

You are correct. We do not currently offer a 2S protector with current protections.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Are there any combination of ICs or series which could create this function, such as the current 2S over voltage protection and balancer IC from the Batter Management section and perhaps a load switch / hot-swap controller or similar ICs ?

Hi Jomon,

The BQ29209 itself cannot be used/ configured in any way to collect current measurements, but you could find a workaround to provide current measurements by using this protector with other circuitry/ ICs.

Working with the system MCU, you could measure the voltage drop across a sense resistor, feed this voltage into a current amplifier IC (link to TI current amplifier portfolio: Current-sense amplifiers | TI.com), then feed the output of the current amplifier into GPIO pins on the MCU.

Please note that I do not work with the current amplifier ICs, so if you have more questions about the current amplifier product line, please start a new thread with that part number to ensure you will be connected to an expert in that product line.
