TPS65987D: PP_HV1 as a Source Path

Dear Support Team,

I am using the TPS65987DDH as a DFP and have configured both PP_HV1 and PP_HV2 as Sources. The 5V, 9V and 15V rails are sourced from a DCDC converter, whilst the 20V rail is sourced directly from the system power.

See attached image with schematic.

The device is configured to source 20V from PP_HV1.

I am however having issues with this setup. It negotiates a power contract for 5V, 9V and 15V OK, but it doesn't negotiate a power contract for 20V.

Can you please tell me where I may b going wrong?

The datasheet "recommends" that PP_HV1 is used as a sink but it doesn't give a reason and the configuration tool allows you to setup PP_HV1 as a source.

I'd appreciate any help you can provide on this subject.

Hello Ayodele,

With respect to the TPS65987D device:

Firstly, either PP_HV1/PP_HV2 can be configured to either source or sink. If the application consists of sourcing and sinking, in that case the recommendation is to use PP_HV1 as sink and PP_HV2 as source. Please refer to PP_HV power switch section of the datasheet.

Secondly, not being able to form 20V contracts. With respect to this, could you please share the following:
a. Project file
b. The firmware version that is currently being use
c. PD logs captured during PD negotiation.

Note: I would need a clearer image of the schematic.
