BQ21080: Charging Mode never stop

Part Number: BQ21080

Dear forum,

I'm little be confused.
I have developped a pcb with BQ21080 + Lipo Battery 1S for a Embedded application.
My question is about the charging mode...

  • My test firmware check is the BQ is alive with "HAL_I2C_IsDeviceReady" >> OK
  • No register modification.
  • On my debug system, i print the ChargerStatus Register in a loop.

Value =0 when no Voltage input Value
Value =33 when Voltage input is present.

The "33" means that the charge mode is enable but the current measure stay at 10mA.. always 10 mA  and "33" value after many days !

My question, is it normal ? a register must be change for basic application ?

regards

  • Hi Joseph,

In the default settings, the BQ21080 is functional for a basic application. If there are specific parameters that you'd like to set such as charging current or battery regulation voltage that fit more towards your basic application, you will need to configure them over I2C and do some register modification.

    Best Regards,
