TPS65987D: Billboard Event issue

We have a design with TPS65987D

Dual power role

UFP data role

DP alternate mode, DP receiver.

Application Customization tool: GUI Build Version: 6.1.4

Bootloader/application code version f707.10.10

The billboard event dosen't seem to work.

We want to use a GPIO to control an external USB billboard device to be enabled.

I configure a GPIO (for instance 12) as Direct mapped event to "Port 0 Billboard Event".

Connect a USB type A to USB-C cable.

We come up as Power Sink and Data Role UFP but with no PD negoiation and no DP Alternate mode.

But the GPIO 12 stays low.

I have also tried to enable the interrupts AMEnteredMode and AMEntryFail.

I do get AMEnteredMode interrupt when approriate but have never seen the AMEntryFail interrupt.

I have also looked in the release notes for a different firmware: TPS65987_88_Firmware_Release_Notes_F907_14_14.pdf

Where they do mention a bug fix: Port does not assert Billboard event when AM entry fails

But the in the release notes for the firmware we are running: TPS65987_88_Firmware_Release_Notes_F707_10_10.pdf

There is no mention about billboard device issues.

Can you consider moving your project to TPS65987DDK part? It is pin compatible to TPS65987DDH.

I do know we have a different, maybe more serious issue with overcurrent protection, and I undestand we have been asked to change chip for that issue also.

I do have a feeling that it is rather late in the project to change chip.

Hi Ghouse,

I handed this issue over to PM, the answer was no to change chip.

But since we have a different issue with the Overcurrent Current Protection also they will discuss further with their TI contacts.

So I will close this issue and I wait for PM.
