TPS4H160-Q1: Could TPS4H160-Q1 support 2A at all four channel?

Part Number: TPS4H160-Q1

Hi Team,

Could TPS4H160-Q1 support 2A at all four channel? What's max continuous output current?

Thank you!

Marc

  • Hi Marc,

2A per channel will cause a lot of thermal dissipation on the device. This may result in one or more channels turning off due to thermals.

The total supportable current depends on the ambient temperature and the heatsinking capabilities of the board and the R,t,j,a of the application. The R,t,j,a value in the datasheet is based of JEDEC 2s2p boards. It is possible to calculate the total supportable power dissipation using thermal circuits:

    (Tj-Ta)/R,t,j,a = P_diss

It is not possible to provide a fixed maximum number as this will change based on the application conditions.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas
