LMQ66410: Selection recommendation

HI Dear,

The customer needs to obtain intrinsic safety certification for underground related equipment. The certification requires that the total capacitance in the circuit cannot exceed a certain value. May I ask if there is a bypass capacitor that can achieve a DC-DC chip of 1uF, with an input voltage of around 22V and an output requirement of around 1-2A

Hello Anna,

The capacitance requirements often depend on the current requirements in the application and also the input supply characteristics (eg. regulator or not?)

Normally the datasheet includes a value that has been tested and validated across corner cases to show that the IC will operate properly. In practice, this capacitance may not be required for every single application. In some applications, additional capacitance could be required. One could evaluate the performance of the part with lower input capacitance. For example, here is an application note that could help you determine the minimum input capacitance for a typical buck application: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slyt670/slyt670.pdf
