BQ40Z50-R2: Minimun gate resistor

Hello,

we need to reduce gate resistor value to speed up the discharge and charge MOSFET switching time.

What is the minimum  gate resistor value ?

    Hello Elvina,

    We do not have a recommended minimum gate resistor value. While it may seem desirable to decrease the gate resistor to increase the switching speed, this can cause ringing due to parasitic inductances. The customer will need to test the ringing and noises in the Vgs when turning ON and OFF while decreasing the gate resistor. 

    In my opinion, the turn ON speed should not be a concerned for most applications. On the other hand, the user might want the protections to react quickly upon a short circuit event. For this, turn-OFF speed might be a requirement. This Multiple FETs app note shows a local turn OFF circuit which could be used to accelerate the turn OFF. See figure 5-2 PNP resistor R37.
