BQ24195: Will BATFET turn off will falling battery voltage

I have requirement in which battery should not be charged if cell voltage is 2.5V. For that I want to make battery which can be discharged to 2.5V but Vbat_dpl is from 2.4V to 2.6V on Vbat failing for BQ24195 so will this allow me to discharge till 2.5V or it will stop discharging at 2.6V??

    Hello, 

    Thank you for reaching out via E2E. Based on your requirement you will need to have a protection IC external to the BQ24195 device to ensure battery is not discharged below 2.5V. 

    With the Vbat_dpl specification being 2.6V maximum and 2.4V typical it is expected that some BQ24195 ICs will allow battery to continue to discharge below 2.5V.

    Hi Garrett,

    Can we disable charging if read value of Vbat is 2.4V?? As per datasheet battery will go to trickle charging mode if voltage is 2.4V. Can we disable trickle charging and disable charging of battery pack ever again

    Hi Dhanajay, 

    I have some confusion regarding your request. The bat_dpl threshold is regarding battery discharge not battery charging. Its purpose is to prevent the battery from being over discharged. 

    Your initial post made it seem like you were looking to prevent battery discharge below 2.5V, which the BQ24195 cannot guarantee. Are you also looking to prevent charging a battery when it has low voltage, such as 2.5V? 

    If you are looking to prevent charging when battery voltage is low your system will need a way to measure battery voltage external to the charger IC and then have logic in your MCU to disable charge when VBAT is below your desired threshold.
