LM5033: Thermal Protection when Powered externally to VCC Pin

Part Number: LM5033

Will thermal protection work if IC is powered externally from 15 v supply with following options:

1. With V IN 15 V

2. With no V IN input

  • Hi,

The thermal protection is sensing die temperature and this is irrespective of how bias is applied to the LM5033 but to answer your questions specifically, see below:

    1. With VIN=15V and thermal protection is enabled which will open the 9.6V series regulator AND shut down the OUT1/2.
    2. With no VIN input (I assume you would then be applying VCC as shown in red below) and thermal protection is enabled which will open the 9.6V series regulator AND shut down the OUT1/2. In this case, you are relying on OUT1/2 disable only, since there is no input applied to VIN.

    Regards,

    Steve
