TPS62860: Start-up sequence question regarding t_delay

Part Number: TPS62860

Hey Buck Regulator team,

I have a customer evaluating the TPS62860 for a project and we were hoping you could help to provide some additional detail regarding the start-up sequence depicted below in Figure 8-1 of the device datasheet. According to that timing diagram, it looks like t_Startup is associated with the Startup Internal fixed soft-start time spec in Section 7.5 also depicted below.

If t_Startup is 0.125ms TYP and 0.2ms MAX, what is the expected duration of t_Delay? Do you know if this has been characterized and do you have a sense of what the typical and/or max values might be?

Best regards,

Matt Calvo

  • Hi Matt,

Let me check this and get back to you by tomorrow.

  • Hi Matt,

    Thanks for your patience.

I checked internally and in our database, we do not have any additional characterization data on t_Startup.

Typical and max values are given in the table for t_Delay & t_Ramp.

Max t_Startup can be calculated as 1.2ms from the table.

  • Thanks for the reply Febin!

I hadn't realized that I interpreted the parameters in the spec table incorrectly so I appreciate you clarifying that the "Internal fixed soft-start time" spec is directly associated with t_Ramp and that the "EN HIGH to start of switching delay" spec is directly associated with t_Delay so that definitely helps to clear things up on our side.

Just as a bit of friendly feedback, this isn't quite clear on the datasheet so it may be a good idea to include this clarification in the next revision so that t_Ramp and t_Delay are directly referenced in the spec table.

    Best regards,

I agree with you. I already provided this feedback to the Systems team. We will take care of this in newer devices.

If there are no further questions, I will close this thread.
