I used the TPS55340 before, but the internal Fets seem to handle only up to 5A. I need a 8A solution.

Would you have a recommendation for an 8A similar part?
Or, could I use two TPS55340 in combination for a higher power , (they should handle 10A in parallel) Would that be a recommended implementation?

Hello Marcio,

I am sorry, but we do not have a similar part with 8A, we have LM5157 which has a somewhat higher switch current, but not as high as you need it.

In general you can use 2 devices to supply one load, but they will not properly share the output current as the output voltages will be slightly different. You would need to add some droop to the output voltage to get a better current sharing. Have a look at this power tip: Power Tip 27: Paralleling power supplies using the droop method - EE Times

You might as well have a look at our load sharing ICs: SR & load share controllers product selection | TI.com

Another possibility would be using a controller like LM5155 or a synchronous controller like LM5123.
