BQ25180: Adapter plug does not kick IC out of shipping mode

Part Number: BQ25180

Good afternoon everyone

I'm using a bq25180ybgr IC on my custom PCB. The application is a game controller with Bluetooth function..

I keep running into this issue where I'm able to activate shipping mode with the bq25180ybgr by setting the appropriate register value using I2C, but when plugging in a power source (USB power cable with 5v supply), the IC does not properly wake up from shipping mode. Looking at the output with a multimeter shows only 1.4v output from the IC. When I then unplug the adapter power, the IC properly outputs the battery voltage of around 3.9v (or whatever the current level is).

The button press to wake the IC from shipping mode works perfectly mind you.

Could anyone provide any insight into why this is behaving in this manner? Is there a better chip I could be using in this situation? The shipping mode is fairly critical to me to allow proper sleep mode.

Relevant schematic bits attached

Thank you

  • After writing this post I was doing more troubleshooting... I shorted fuse F3 on my schematic and bam it works.

For anyone else that might have this issue, I hope this can help!
