BQ28Z610-R1: DFETF PF triggered, but a different function showed in PF status in data memory, will this DFETF function work properly?

Part Number: BQ28Z610-R1

Battery stayed in system for about a month to test leakage, both CUV and DFET PF are triggerd. but we found there's no DFETF or CFETF bit in data memory reading by battery management studio, instead it's showing DFW & IFC bit at the same spot.

Then we tried clearing PF status and found that DFET and CFET are both functioning well, also current calibration is fine, no offset during relax.

P.S. DFETF threshold is -5mA for 5s.

there're 2 questions.

1. Unconsistency showed between register page and data memory page, is this DFETF function supposed to work proplerly?

2. As we found there's no current during relax for this NG sample, and repeat 100 times of CUV still no PF tirggered, any other possiblity for DFETF triggered?

Thanks.

  • Hello Long,

The above pictures represent two different registers. One is to indicate the status of the Permanent Failures (to see what PF is triggering). On the other hand, PF status D is a register to enable or disable specific failure features.

The Discharge FET Permanent Failure will trigger when the DSG FET is OFF and it senses a current less than the -5mA threshold for 5s. From your settings, it looks like the DSG FET will be off as long as discharge current is less than 35mA which is the DSG Current Threshold.

Do you see any current less than -5mA present while the device is in RELAX? If this current is needed, then you might need to increase the DFET:OFF Threshold.

  • Hi Jose,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I understand that the pictures are from register and data memory page in battery management studio. but PF Alert A/B, PF Status A/B are perfectly aligned both in register and data memory page. only C & D showing unconsistency

It seems that PF Alert C. PF status C, PF Alert D are missing in data memory page, so is DFETF and CFETF indicators. From my understanding DFETF & CFETF should be in PF alert/status D, but the data memory page shows DFW & IFC instead. That's why I'm wondering will there be any mistake or bug when the NG battery showing DFETF failure in the register page.

Also, the DSG Current Threshold and Quit Current is when gauge goes from discharge mode to relax mode, it should not impact the FET action. I tried to dischage the battery to CUV(DFET off) and repeatly discharge again but no current observed both in electronic load and gauge current register, so it's hard to understand why PF-DFETF triggered when DFET is working and off.

So I would like to know is DFETF or CFETF function suppose to work properly? so we can increase the PF threshold, or we will considering disable these PF functions

  • Hello Long,

I see your concern regarding the register alignment. The missing three registers are private and hidden. These are not supposed to be altered or modified.

Maybe I need to re-phrase my last question. Is the gauge sensing a current less than -5mA while the DSG FET is OFF? If this is true the DFETF function will trigger. The DFETF and CFETF should work properly. These are to ensure the FETs are working properly. You might need to increase the thresholds if your application requires a current greater than (absolute value) the default thresholds while the FETs are off.
