LM7310: how to parallel 2 different input power using LM7310

Part Number: LM7310

Dear supporter,

LM7310 showed how to use 2 different power in parallel.

we have a further request to provide current from both power rail. for example, power 1 is 5.1V from typeC port and power 2 is 5V from typeA.

the current is not enough from either port, so we need they provide current at same time.

Q1:dose it work fine if we put balast resistor in both output. like below

Q2: if the power 1 and power 2 are step down from 5V to 3.8V with bucks, dose balast resistor work ok? will it cause bucks abnormal ?

Q3: LM7310 quencient current is high, any other diode with low Iq?

  • Hi Tao,

Q1: LM7310 will work fine with a ballast resistor.

Q2: I don't see any issues using ballast resistor with switching converters, as it will be a resistive addition to the load rather than reactive.

Q3: What is the average load current? I don't believe there are any other ideal diodes that can work here, but perhaps a load switch like TPS22916 in a setup similar to the one you sent would work? The quiescent current would be much lower.

Please let me know if I can assist further with this.

    Thanks,

    Patrick
