Need some clarification on QEN bit.  understand that QEN or ITEN status needs to be enabled during learning process.  Is it critical or necessary to disable it after GI is created and parts are in Mass production? Doesn't disabling of the QEN disable  reading of the FCC?

  • Hello,

I am assigning this thread to the expert of the device.

  • Hi Harry,

The QEN bit is used to enable the Impedance Track Gauging and allows for Qmax learning and updates to occur.

Unless you are planning to store the system for an extended period of time and do not want the gauge to be running simulations, then it is not critical to disable it after the golden image is created.

  • Hi Anthony,

How much in power consumption savings can we expect with and without the QEN being active?

  • Hi Harry,

It is less about the power consumption saving with QEN being active and more about the simulations that are being ran by the gauge if the device is not in use for an extended amount of time. If the gauge is constantly running simulations for the Impedance Track Algorithm on a device that is not being used for an extended amount of time, then the gauging algorithm will be less accurate when the device is active. However, if the gauge is not running simulations during this extended time, then when the device is active the Impedance Track algorithm will be much more accurate.
