TPS65400: Does the soft_RESET commmand (equivalent to RSTn) force immediate shutdown or is toff_delay shutdown sequencing observed?

Part Number: TPS65400

The data sheet says concerning the Soft_RESET Command:

    • Controlled by the i2C bus (DCh)
    • Triggers a software reset of the device
    • It is equivalent to sending an assert-deasserting pulse to the RST_N pin
    • Consequently, all switchers turn off and all faults are cleared

But it is not clear if this includes any toff_DELAY or sequencing. Please advise.

Thank you, Kurt

  • Hi Kurt,

See below picture about tOFF_delay time.

    Best Regards,

    Zhou

  • Thank you for the fast reply Zhou but this doesn't unambiguously answer our question.

Does the TPS65400 use Toff delay sequencing if the RSTn pin is pulled low?

Does the TPS65400 use Toff delay sequencing if a soft_RESET command is issued?

Thank you in advance for clarifying with a "Yes"' or "No."

    Respectfully, Kurt

  • Hi  Kurt,

Yes, the SOFT_RESET command triggers a software reset of the device. It is equivalent to sending an assert deasserting pulse to the RST_N pin. Consequently, all switchers turn off and all faults are cleared.

    Best regards,

    Zhou

  • You still are not answering my question: "Do the switchers turn off immediately? Or after Toff sequencing delays?

I can read the data sheet and have done so many times so please don't quote it to me again. It does not answer this question one way or the other.

We cannot wait another 24 hours for another non-answer. Please find somone in your organization right now that understands this if you do not.

    Respectfully, Kurt

  • Hi Kurt,

I tested it in the lab and the results match the datasheet. Please refer to the picture below, to ensure the settings are correct (No.1 to 3 in Configuration).

From Figure 8-15. Example of Internal On Sequencing and Off Sequencing With the Default START_PGOOD Dependence

The specific configuration is as follows:

I only captured the timing of tON_DELAY for your reference. You can ask the customer to test the tOFF_DELAY time.

    Best Regards,

    Zhou

  • Thank you for the effort Harry, but to be very clear: This is not about turn on sequencing so I’m not sure why you started with that?

Please show turn off due to RSTn and soft_RESET command.

Please call or message me if you still do not understand the question.

  • Kurt,

I think you should want to check whether the Toff-delay command or off timing will still be effective while Soft-RESET command enabled or RST pin toggled, right? Or just as you said whether IC will be shut down immediately instead of following Toff-delay or off timing.

if the understanding is correct, we will double check and give you feedback ASAP today.

    Yuchang

  • Yes, that is the correct understanding.

  • Hi Kurt,

Once there is a RSTn or soft_RESET command, there will be no more tOFF_DELAY time, Vout1,2,3,4 shut down immediately at the same time.

    Best Regards,

    Zhou
