TPS7H1101A-SP: Maximum allowable current estimation

Guru 11160 points
Part Number: TPS7H1101A-SP

Hello,

My customer wants to use TPS7H1101A-SP with the conditions below.

 - VIN = 5V / VOUT = 1.5V / Room temperature

What is the maximum current available? How can they calculate it?

Thank you.

JH

  • Hi JH,

This device is capable of 3A.

With that input and output voltage, the part is likely to heat up. In order to keep it below the maximum rated temperature of 125C, they should calculate the expected operating temperature using the Thermal Information in the datasheet, their expected power across the device, and maximum expected ambient temperature. This will only be an estimate though since the PCB that the device is mounted on impacts how much heat can be moved away from the device - differences in PCB design will allow more or less heat to accumulate.

    Thanks,

    Sarah
