TPS6594-Q1: "TO_SAFE_SEVERE and TO_SAFE" seuqence

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM69

Hello,

My customer has a question for SLVUCI2 user's guide (Powering Jacinto TM J7 SoC Family For Isolated Power Groups With TPS6594133A-Q1 PMIC and Dual HCPS Converters).

In seciton 5.3.1(TO_SAFE_SEVERE and TO_SAFE),  this shutdown seqnece is shutting down all rails without delay.
This sequnece doesn't meet AM69's required down seuqnece which is described in AM69 datasheet(Section 7.10.2.3 on P155).
Is it really no problem? Doesn't damage AM69 device? Could you tell me how to think about it?

Regards,
Oba

  • Hello Oba,

Those immediate shutdown sequences should not be the standard method for powering down the PMIC or processor. The PMIC executes these sequences in the presence of serious faults such as thermal shutdown or over voltage protection. These type of faults have a higher risk to the system than powering down too quickly.
