BQ27421-G1: The measurement of cell temperature

Part Number: BQ27421-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27427, BQ27Z561-R1

Hi BU expert,

I have one question about  bq27421-G1:

How the bq27421-G1 measure the temperature of cell? I cannot fine the TS pin in bq27421-G1. I don't know why the cell's TS pin should connect to BIN pin as below.t

How the temperature sensor measure the cell temperature?

Regards,

Charlie

  • Hi Charlie,

The temperature of the cell is measured from the internal sense resistor seen here:

The purpose of the BIN pin is to detect whether a battery is connected to the cell or not. If your pack does not have a TS pin, it can be configured with a 20k Ohm pull down resistor.

  • Hi Anthony,

The BQ27421-G1 is on system board In stead of battery package. So the BQ27421-G1 cannot measure the cell temperature like BQ27Z561-R1, right? I have noticed that BQ27427's BIN pin can measure the temperature via NTC. Can you provide a device pin2pin to BQ27421-G1 that can measure cell temperature via NTC?

I don't know how the BQ27421-G1 estimate the cell temperature if the gauge is on system board.

    Regards,

    Charlie

  • Hi Charlie,

You are correct, if you are looking for a device that is pin2pin with the bq27421-G1 and can measure temperature via NTC, we would recommend the bq27427.
