BQ34Z100: SoC jumps rfrom 7% to 100% to 0%

Hello,

we use bq34z100 as battery management with LED display for a device of ours.

The battery we use has the following ratings: 3.635VDC/ 7Ah / 25.44Wh.

We now encounter the following problem:

Sometimes the SoC jumps from <10% (one LED) to 100%(4 LEDs), then after some time back to 0%(no LEDs). What causes this or wich settings do we have wrong?

Hello Simeon,

What firmware version are you using? IS this the BQ34Z100-R2 or the BQ34Z100-G1?

Hello Wyatt,

thanks for reaching out.

We use BQ34Z100-G1.

We downloaded Firmware bq34z100_v2_02_00_30 and executed it on our devices.

BQ Management Studio says 0x0201 when asked about FW_Version.

Hello Simeon,

v2_02_00_30 is the BQ34Z100-R2, this is different firmware than the BQ34Z100-G1. I would continue testing with the BQ34Z100-G1 for now and see if that resolves the issue.

Hello Wyatt,

so R2 Firmware won't work on G1 hardware anyway?

Because of this sentence: "The BQ34Z100-DEVICE-FW firmware is usable on any previous version of the BQ34Z100 hardware" here: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/BQ34Z100-DEVICE-FW/2.02 , we were under the assumption that this would be the case.

When installing latest FW for G1 that is available on the website, which should be this: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/BQ34Z100-DEVICE-FW/0.16 we encounter the following:

theres a bitshift? Is this FW save to work with?

Hello Simeon,

You cannot use the same BQZ file for both -R2 and -G1 firmware, make sure the gauge is autodetected by BQStudio and the BQZ is not manually selected. The hardware is compatible with any BQ34Z100 firmware.
