UCC2891: About typical power level.

Part Number: UCC2891
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC2894, , UCC2897A, UCC28951

Hello teams,

I would like to design a offline power supply using forward converter topology.

The specifications are as follows

Input voltage: 280V to 330V

Output voltage: 100V

Power rating: 400W

Topology : Flyback or Forward

I checked "Power Management Guid 2018(Power Management Guide 2018 (Rev. R) (ti.com))", the guide said UCC2891~UCC2894 and UCC2897 can use typcal power range between 50 to 300W.

Can I use these IC  for the above condition power supply?

Thanks and Regards

Tomohiro Yoshimura

  • Hi,

Yes, it is ok to use these devices in your specified applications.

UCC2894 is recommended as first choice and the UCC2897A.

  • Hello teams,

    Thank you for your answer.

    I have additional question.

    1. Is there the reference design meeting the above conditionIn addition, is there the near reference design?

    2. Can I use UCC2894 and UCC2897A for a flyback converter meeting the above condition? Is there the recommended flyback controller?

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi,

It is better to use the device in forward topology for power over 200 to 300W.

Other options are phase shifted full bridge (UCC28951) or LLC (UCC25640x).

We do not have ref design to meet your specs. You can look at these devices on ti.com to see some existing reference designs as your reference.
