BQ25672EVM: BQ25672EVM

Part Number: BQ25672EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25672, , BQSTUDIO, USB2ANY, BQ25798, EV2400

I need the .BQZ file for the BQ25672 EVM board

  • Also, can I use a 1000uF capacitor as the battery simulator for the BQ25672EVM?

  • Hi Dante,

There isn't a BQZ file for the 672EVM.  It uses the USB2ANY box and TI charger online GUI.  However, you can use the BQ25798 BQZ file with BQSTUDIO and EV2400 box.  Keep in mind that the 672 can only charge up to 3A, cannot boost in charge/forward mode and does not have buck up mode like the 798.https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/196/4377.Charger_5F00_1_5F00_00_2D00_BQ25798.bqz

Regarding the 1000uF capacitor, yes but it will charge very quickly to BATREG.

  • Hi Jeff,

Thank you for the response. Can you please elaborate a little more on the differences between the 672 and 798?
In our application we have two possible input sources and a modest rechargeable lithium battery, 3A is ok.
In the event we have NO input power we want to utilize the battery and have the battery power only one of the input
    rails. (OTG mode).
I'm not sure what you mean exactly  "cannot boost in charge/forward mode and does not have buck up mode like the 798"
  • Hi Dante,

672 can only buck from a higher input source down to a lower battery voltage while the 798 can also boost up from a lower input voltage to a higher battery voltage.  Both provide SYS power from the battery if is no input power available.  672 can also only charge the battery up to 3A while the 798 can provide up to 5A to the battery.

798 has backup (not buck up, sorry) mode but 672 does not.

So if you use the 798 BQSTUDIO file, it show backup mode and up to 5A charging but 672 cannot do either.

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Can both the 672 and the 798 supply upto 3A on the Vsys rail to power my system?

    Dan

  • Hi Dan,

Yes, both can provide up to 5A on SYS.  672 can only provide 3A charge current output of BAT.

    Regards,

    Jeff
