BQ35100: EOS Detection with SPC in parallel

Part Number: BQ35100

I have a pack of 5 LTC cells in parallel that are connected through serial parallel diodes to prevent reverse current. I have also a SPC in parallel with the pack to support GPRS peak current requirements (2A@577 us every 4.6ms). I would like to use BQ35100 to estimate/detect EOS of the pack. Considering that all the cells are in a similar condition, Would it be possible to, periodically, isolate one of the cells by using a relay that disconnect the cell from the pack and connects the cell to a known load through the current shunt of the BQ35100 and force several current peaks controlled by a uC to detect EOS of the cell and extrapolate this condition to the whole pack?
If yes, how often do I have to isolate the cell in order to the BQ35100 can detect the change of the internal impedance of the cell?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Alejandro,

The more samples used for EOS detection the better since the operation principle is based on two moving averages and how quickly they are separating. So it depends on the lifetime of your battery pack and how many samples you are able to get.

    Sincerely,
