TPS65988DJ: GPIO control can't effect but debug display GPIO has set successful.

status:

We have used TPS65988DJ to manage 2 ports USB-C output, the power capacity is 5V/3A and 15V/3A. (no TBT circuit)

Application Customization Tool (6.1.4) has no configuration for TPS65988DJ, we use template of TPS65988DH and set the GPIO by our design.

We use GPIO12 to select power output, Mapped Event: Port 0 Source PDO Negotiated TT 1 , and test power output of port 0.

generate bin file and program it to flash, the port can work at 5V, but can't set the power to 15V, we have monitor the PD signal, communication is right, but no PS_RDY output while device need 15V.

we have monitor the GPIO12 by IIC, the data can't keep high, it jumps between 1 and 0. but I have capture the GPIO12 output by oscillograph, no high level output.

question:

1. general GPIO control by mapped event, it should be according TRM description, the different of FW by DJ and DH may cause GPIO set failure?

2. do we need to replace DJ for our current hardware? whether we can modify setting for DJ hardware and PD output for 15V.

You cannot use DH template on DJ. If you load this onto the PD, it will go into PTCH mode (read-back of 0x03 register).

To be clear, you have to always support the 5V output per USB spec. Your second PDO can be 15V correct?

Do both ports have 5V and 15V PDO? OR just one port has 5V/15V?

I would recommend using the Port 0 Source PDO 2/3/4 Negotiated for your use-case. You can also take a look at the USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM for a good example of a 5V/15V project! https://www.ti.com/tool/USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM

For current hardware, is it possible to use the configuration tool for TPS65988DJ(I do not know where to download it)？or we must replace DJ to DH and reconfiguration by Application Customization Tool (6.1.4)

Do both ports have 5V and 15V PDO? OR just one port has 5V/15V?

yes, but we use one power supply for 2 ports, if need 5V output per port, we should power independent for each port.

You need to request access to the latest GUI tool using this link: https://www.ti.com/licreg/docs/swlicexportcontrol.tsp?form_id=302387&prod_no=TBTDEVICE-DESIGN&ref_url=app_psil_pi

You can then use the 6.2.12 GUI for latest firmware and configurations.

Thanks for clarification! Your setup is sound I believe. I recommend using the SourcePDO2_Negotiated_Port2/Port1 GPIO events

thanks Christodules tsongas，I changeGPIO12 to GPIO15, I can switch 5V and 15V for port0. maybe TPS65988DJ has limited GPIO12.

I think we can use TPS65988DJ if not use TBT function.
