BQ27Z746EVM-047: Program Chemistry failed with 1711

Part Number: BQ27Z746EVM-047
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27Z746, EV2400, , BQSTUDIO

I am trying to program Chemistry with ID 2085 (Samsung INR18650-30Q) with Battery Management Studio 1.3.123 with EV2400 FW 0.32 into a BQ27Z746.

I am trying this on a BQ27Z746EVM-047

Device number: 0x1746

HW Version: 0xA1

FW Version: 0x0102

FW Build: 0x000F

I am getting a Dialog which says: Chemistry programming failed! Error code = 1711.

The status bar shows: Chemistry programming Error: File containing QMax disqualification voltage not found.

My ChemVersion.txt is 1057 although Battery Management Studio shows Chemistry Version: 639 on the Chemistry Programming tab.

  • Hello Florian,

I recommend downloading the latest version (v1059) of the chemistry updater found here. Once you download the zip file, you will need to follow the steps below to ensure the chemID library in bqStudio is updated.

    1. Navigate to the "Chemistry" folder in the v1059 zip file and copy all of the contents in this folder.
    2. Then navigate to the location on your computer where you downloaded bqStudio.
    3. Navigate to the "chemistry" folder inside of your bqStudio folder and paste the contents you copied here.

Please let me know if you are still having issues after this.

    Regards,

    Jonny.

  • Hello Jonny,

Thank you very much for your response. Unfortunately the problem persists. I have also double-checked that the bqsbb.exe process that is running is indeed the correct one from the parent folder where i pasted the chemistry files into.

    Regards,

    Florian

  • Hello Florian,

Can you please make sure your voltage is above the flash update voltage. If it is below the flash update voltage then this will prevent you from being able to program the chemistry to the gauge.

    Regards,

    Jonny.

  • Hello Jonny,

Seems ok: Valid Update Voltage is set to 2100mV, Cell Voltage is 3440mV

    Regards,

    Florian

  • Maybe this screenshot helps

  • Hello Florian,

Everything looks fine here. It seems like the issue is with the chemistry updater files being loaded into bqStudio. I suggest to remove all of the files from the "chemistry" folder which bqStudio pulls from, then redownload the most recent version of the chemistry updater from ti.com, then recopy and paste those files into the "chemistry" folder for bqStudio. Below is a image of all the files you should copy into the "chemistry" folder.

    Regards,

    Jonny.

  • Thank you very much. I think I advanced one step. The Application is now reporting Chemistry Version 1059.

Now when programming selected chemistry with id 2085 I get the following error after some short time: "Error code 1801." The statusbar says: "First two bytes of MAC response read from device does not match MAC command sent." Also see attached screenshot.

Interesting: I ran command CHEM_ID and got 0x2085 as result.

Now I am confused. Did it work, or did it not work?

  • Hello Florian,

Can you please share with me the process you are doing to program the chemID onto the gauge.

    Regards,

    Jonny.

  • Hi Jonny,

I could now successfully program the Chemistry!

The problem must have been somewhere in the install directory. Your pointer with deletion of the files in the chemistry folder and fresh copy made me try to uninstall and also manually completely remove the whole install directory of Battery Management Studio and start with a fresh install. I guess the installation was tainted from some previous installed version from some years ago.

To finally answer your question: I was just following the process steps from the evaluation board user guide SLUUCH4A.

    Regards,
    Florian
