Hi Team

My Design inputs:

input voltage range 1:- Vin min:316 Vdc, Vin nominal:587Vdc, Vin Max: 815Vdc

input voltage range 2:- Vin min:417 Vdc, Vin nominal:700Vdc, Vin Max: 1000Vdc

input voltage range 3:- Vin min:417Vdc, Vin nominal:800Vdc, Vin Max: 1200Vdc

output remains common for 3 diffrent input voltage range

Vout:48Vdc

Iout:13Adc

Pout:626W

Application:Fan power supply

Isolated output

Can you please suggest me which topology is Preferable for this wide range of input.

suggest me the best switching IC.

  • Hello Sravan,

We have a topology selection for isolated DC/DC controllers here: https://www.ti.com/power-management/acdc-isolated-dcdc-switching-regulators/overview.html. Looking at this chart, an LLC or PSFB could be a good option for you.

The TIDA-010080 (https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010080) is a 500W reference design using the UCC256403 LLC controller. The LLC stage of the TIDA-010080 converts ~400VDC to 48VDC. The PMP21683 (https://www.ti.com/tool/PMP21683) is a 550W reference design using the UCC256302 LLC converter that converts 380V-420VDC to 48VDC. Other applicable LLC controllers include the UCC256404.

Applicable PSFB controllers include the UCC28950 and UCC28951. Many of our LLC and PSFB also include Excel calculators for help with your design

  • Hi Jonathan wong

    Thank you for the reply.

can i use Buck+Half bridge LLC or Buck + Half bride converter for this wide range of input, is this preferable

or should i use half bridge converter(hard switching) for less cost .

can you please provide me the application sheet or data  for  LLC Half bridge converter mosfet losses calculation.

  • Hi Sravan,

You have listed 3 possible solutions

    1. Buck + HB-LLC
    2. Buck + HB
    3. HB only

The decision to use one or the other depends on how important efficiency is compared to complexity. I would recommend LLC since the gains in efficiency and performance can be great. LLCs can be more difficult to design but TI provides an abundance of application notes, EVMs and reference designs for our LLC products.

We have an application note on LLC design: https://www.ti.com/seclit/ml/slup263/slup263.pdf.  Specifically, the "ZVS" section on page 13 describes MOSFET conduction losses. Page 20 also goes through a practical design example that includes MOSFET conduction loss calculations.
