TPS55386EVM-363: Layout

Part Number: TPS55386EVM-363
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62933

As per datasheet Vin max 28V but in EVM user manual mentioned upto max 13.2V.

As per my requirement is Input 24V

output 1 required to Max 18V

Output 2 Required to Max 3.3V can i change as per my requirement in EVM.

  • Hi Harish,

You can setup with EVM board and use 24Vin. The device can support max 28V.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Lucia.

Please verify my schematic as per below image please let me know if any changes are required.

  • Hi Harish,

Let me check and get back to you soon. Thanks!

  • Thank you Lucia i have one more doubt can i step down direct 24V to 3.3V with out Cascading PVDD1 from Output 2

  • Hi Harish,

Yes, it can support. BTW, is dual channel a must requirement? We have new released single Buck devices, will you consider use 2*single buck to get 16V and 3.3V?

    Thanks!

  • Hi lucia,

Due to place constrain in PCB am preferring Dual Buck regulator.

As per datasheet will it create any issue in my design with out cascading connection. Please review below image. Because, outputs are like 3.3V and 16V its different ranges and power supply  input 24V. Please review and let me know if any changes are required.

  • Hi Harish,

I will review. To answer your question, this configuration may be preferred if the input voltage is high relative to Vout1, not a must requirement. Our latest 30V/3A solution TPS62933 is SOT583 package which can meet your request of small solution size if you have interests in the future.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Harish,

What is the range of your input voltage?

    (1) Please check whether it will operate near maximum duty cycle.

the TPS5538x operates at maximum duty cycle, and if the input voltage is insufficient to support the output voltage (at full load or during a load current transient), then there is a possibility that the output voltage will fall from regulation and trip the output UV comparator. If this should occur, the TPS5538x protection circuitry declares a fault and enter a shut down-and-restart cycle. Please ensure that under ALL conditions of line and load regulation, there is sufficient duty cycle to maintain output voltage regulation.

I would suggest that you can check the max duty with minimum VIN and 16Vout.

    (2) Please check whether it can support 3.3Vout. The max value of ton(min) is 200ns, the minimum switching frequency is 510kHz, it means that the max value of minimum duty cycle would be 0.102. You can check the min duty with maximum VIN and 3.3Vout.

    (3) For the loop performance, please download TI Average simulation model and modify the parameters in the model according to your schematic. For Cout, please kindly check the effective value after derating and use effective value in the model. Please simulate and get bode plot to check whether it's stability from simulation. Please also verify with your board.

    Thanks!

  • Thankyou Lucia,

Modified and tested EVM as per my requirement its working fine can i proceed with same?

  • Hi Harish,

You can verify you requirement with EVM board. If you are good with the behavior and performance in EVM board, you can proceed.

    Thanks!
