Recommended IC for dual battery charge with prioritised power path

I'm planning to design a portable device which has two 4S1P li-ion batteries, one of which is hot-swappable. The device will also feature a DC power input to charge both batteries, which should also power the device when plugged in. The power supplies should be prioritised ideally so that the hot swappable battery is used in preference to the other battery.

Can you help me select a suitable product for this?

Should I use two BQ24617 plus some sort of external power path selection logic? Or some other charger IC with some sort of smart features? Does TI offer a suitable IC?

Hi Ben,

What is your input power? I assume you want standalone and not I2C host controlled charger? What is the desired charge current? What is the end application?

Quite early design stage.

Input voltage spec still flexible, but for charging 4S we'd need probably >=19V input DC. The system itself will run on the full battery voltage for a 4S battery and a little higher.

Charge current not defined yet either, perhaps roughly 1-3A.

Standalone is preferable if at all possible!

End application is a handheld device (tablet type)

Hi Ben,

For standalone buck only 4S charger, BQ2461x family is the best option.
