UCC28220: Can I use UCC28220 to Implement interleave DC-DC buck

Hello,

I would like to know if this can be used to implement an interleave DC-DC buck converter, for example. I would like to know the steps from high voltage (800V) to low voltage (100V) without current at 60A.

I am trying to understand how I can use this to implement it if you have a schematic showing how you use it.

Ikenna,

Can UCC28220 be used to control a dual interleaved buck - yes. However, the challenges you have to overcome are:

High-side gate drive suitable for driving HV discretes (SiC/IGBT) must be developed
600W is high power for this topology operating from 800V
Reverse recovery of buck diode (suggest SiC diodes)

Below is a UCC28220/1 Unitrode seminar paper you may not have seen. UCC28220/1 was intended for interleaved forward/flyback topologies. The paper does not discuss the use of UCC28220/1 in an interleaved buck application but should offer some deeper insight into the PWM operation. The forward converter is really just an isolated buck converter, so you can follow the design guidance for interleaved forward, bearing in mind the challenges I've mentioned above.

Hello Steven,

Thanks, the paper was very useful. I am using a gate driver for the high side and low side to drive the SIC Mosfet. like a synchronous buck converter using an inductor instead of a transformer.

I am thinking of using either this one, UCC5350MCDWVR, or UCC21755 due to the desat pin.
