Setting PMBus address in Power Designer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9244

I'm only working in offline mode at this time.  I'm using two UCD9244 controllers for a total of 6 output voltages.  The 1st controller involves outputs #1-4, and has a PMBus address of 126.  This design file was copied to create the starting point for the 2nd controller which only contains outputs #5 & #6.  As such, both controller are showing a PMBus address of 126 in Power Designer.  So when I change the rail #1 name on the 2nd controller, it also changes the name of rail #1 on the first controller.  I'm guessing because they both have the same PMBus address even though they will be physically different controllers with different .xml file in Power Designer.  Is this problem due to them having the same address?  If so, how can I change the address in Power Designer?  I have only been able to view the address as 126 for both files at this point.  Thanks.

  • Currently, the Fusion GUI automatically assigns an "address" to the project file (.xml) when working in the offline mode, a virtual address, this allows the GUI to function in the same manner when operating offline as it does when online when it would read the physical address of the controller(s).

The address for a controller is only defined by the actual resistors connected to the ADDRx pins of the device.  What the project file indicates as the address in the offline mode does not matter when importing the configuration into the controller.  It will be properly indictaed within the GUI when you are connected to an actual device.

As for the rail name changes in one project file affecting the rail names in the other, I'd double check this as I've never seen this occur before.

I would change the project file names to something unique for each controller and reconfirm the issue.

If you are still experiencing this issue, attach both files to this thread and I'll take a look at them.

  • It looks like the rail name is carried over if the second file if it is opened from within the Fusion GUI (first file is open in the GUI and File --> Open is used to open the second).

If the application is closed and reopened with the second file then the name is not carried over.

I'll have the GUI designer look into corrrecting this issue.
