BQ27421-G1: Application issues of chips

Part Number: BQ27421-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

1.The DesignCapacity 0x4A and 0x4B registers are set and read correctly, with the set value being the battery capacity of 0x0172370mA. But the value read by the 0x3C register is f47f, which is different from the set value.

2.This is the data read by all commands. The remaining battery level read is incorrect, and the battery percentage will still jump during charging, from 10% to 82%, and then no longer change. Could you please help analyze the reason again?

3.The battery capacity we use is 370mAh. Does this small capacity battery require special treatment? Do I need to do a Chemistry ID match before using the battery?

4.The debugging materials I found online are all based on using the bqStudio tool to learn how to charge and discharge the battery, then exporting the configuration file, and then writing the commands in the configuration file into the driver code. We don't have a development board and only set Design Capacity. Can we make the electricity meter work properly?

  • Hello,

    1. & 2. In order for the gauge to be accurate, you will need to match your cell with one of the three chemIDs on the gauge. Please see the image below.

    3. I don't see an issue using a 370mAh battery as long as it matched the chemID being used. The BQ27421-G1 gauge supports cells down to a 100mAh capacity.

    4. I'm not sure exactly is trying to be done here. In order for the gauge to operate accurately with your cell, you will need to make sure your cell matches the ChemID being used.

  • BQ Studio is already the latest version, and the detected devices are not in the list. What should I do?

The connection of the device has been checked and there is no problem.

Is it because the device database has not been updated, and is there a step-by-step explanation for updating the device database, as well as specific device database files, installation guidelines, etc?

  • Hello,

I just want to make sure I understand you correctly, do you mean that the BQ27421-G1 device does not come up in the target selection when you open up BQSudio? What is the device that is being detected by BQStudio so that I know which bqz you are needing?

    Regards,

    Jonny.

  • Your understanding is correct. What I am currently detecting is 0421_ 1_ 09_ 30, this bqz is not in the list. Can you help me see how to solve it? Thank you!

  • Hello,

Can you please accept my friend request for E2E so that I can send you a direct message to help you download the correct files?
