TPS3431-Q1: Regarding the reset function of Watchdog timer when WDI pulse is arriving too late.

We would like to know if there are any Watchdog timers/ any other device available, which will not be reset(as attached below from the datasheet), when the WDI pulse is arriving too late or pulses are not provided for a longer time period.

    Hi Mari,

    The function of a watchdog is to notify of software faults (typically a software hang where the MCU freezes). In order to do this it must recognize and notify the fault. Would you mind further explaining your application for the watchdog? The TPS3431-Q1 along with our new line of watchdog devices the TPS3435-Q1 & TPS3436-Q1 offer a wide range of customizable watchdog timing options as well as reset assertion timings.

    Hi Joshua, 
    We are in need of a device that is asserted to be low and must remain low until the Pulse input is supplied again. But in TPS3431, the device gets resets if the pulse is arriving too late or not supplied for a long time.

    Application requirement:
    If input pulse is supplied -> Output must be High
    if input pulse is not supplied/constant low - > Output must be low and must remain low until the pulses are supplied again. 

    Please suggest if any other devices are available which can meet this requirement.

    Hi Mari,

    We do not have a device that is enabled or disabled via a pulse. We do however have our TPS3435-Q1 watchdog that features a manual reset pin. If this pin is driven low then the reset will assert and when this pin is brought up the reset will deassert. This will require holding the pin either high or low instead of sending a pulse enable/disable the device.
