TPS65295: Cout Beyond Recommended Values?

Part Number: TPS65295

Hi all,

I am investigating the TPS65295 for a circuit requiring +-3% output transient variance and in this case, the Cout Max values provided in Table 3 are not sufficient enough for me to meet my requirement for the VDD rail.

My conditions are as follows:

Vout =1.2V

Fsw= 600kHz

Lout = 0.47uH

My questions is whether I can exceed the recommended values shown in the table. (For example, choosing 264uF or 396uF)

If so, what are the parameters I should keep in mind when choosing different output caps? The plan is to use a ceramic cap to minimize ESR per the datasheet guidelines.

Thank you

  • Hi Filipe,

    Why do you say that LC table in ds could not meet your requirement? Did you have test on EVM or just achieve result from datasheet? Could you please help to provide your test setup? Like range of current change and slew rate.

  • Hi, The Cout value could be over the recommended value, but recommend to verify the performance on EVM to make sure work normally, such as checking switching waveform if there is multi-pulse happen during all load range, another idead is inductor value could be reduced for transient improvement, such as 0.33uH, but not recommended with <0.22uH, also smaller inductor value could help to keep L*C double pole close to the table value, which is easy to make the loop stable.
