BQ76942: Confirm Operation Temperature

Part Number: BQ76942

Hi, Team,

Customer want to confirm the operation temperature.

1. If the ambient temperature is 80℃, the case temperature is 88℃ and the junction temperature is 90℃, would the chip work normally? Will it cause permanent device damage? Which temperature does Functional temperature, TFUNC limit?

2. When the ambient temperature is above 85℃, customer will shut down the AFE. Will it cause permanent device damage?

  • Hi Dillen,

See below from the Abs Max table on the datasheet:

It should be fine as long as the device temperature does not exceed these thresholds, however the recommended operating temperature is -40C to 85C and device performance is not guaranteed when operating outside of that range.

  • Thanks, Max,

As datasheet spec can not convince customer for their real application, I need double confirm with you.

    1. When the AFE is working, if the chip case temperature is 88℃, above the max recommended functional temperature 85℃, we cannot guaranteed the performance at this case.

    2. Dose Functional temperature mean ambient temperature or the chip case temperature?

    3. When the temperature is above Functional temperature, configure AFE into shutdown mode. After temp. is below Func. temp., configure AFE into work mode. Can customer operate like it?

  • Hi Dillen,

When the AFE is working, if the chip case temperature is 88℃, above the max recommended functional temperature 85℃, we cannot guaranteed the performance at this case.

Yes, when the IC temperature is above 85℃ we cannot guarantee the performance of the device.

Dose Functional temperature mean ambient temperature or the chip case temperature?

Functional temperature, as well as the other temperature specs, relate to the temperature of the IC.

When the temperature is above Functional temperature, configure AFE into shutdown mode. After temp. is below Func. temp., configure AFE into work mode. Can customer operate like it?

    This should work.
