TPS55289: TPS55289-Q1

Part Number: TPS55289
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS55288

This query relates to the TPS55289-Q1, see snippet below?

Can you please advise how the input current monitoring is achieved on this device and any further information in relation to this function, for instance is it a constant current function in both input and output current limiting configuration?

  • Hi Barry,

    Thanks for reaching out.

May I know what is the application and product type that needs the input/output current limit function?

The input/output current limit function is executed by sensing ISP-ISN voltage of the current sense resistor like below. But you can choose only input current limit or output current limit because there is only one pair ISP and ISN pins.

  • Good day Bryce, thank you for your reply. Yes, we need input current limiting because we have to restrict what current can be drawn from the input supply over the entire input voltage range, 9V-32V. Can you provide a more detailed circuit with the input current limit monitoring? This is presumably const current input current monitoring, right? Can you also please advise if the same input current monitoring can be applied to the TPS55288, which is a very similar part? Thanks

  • Hi Barry,

Yes, you can use it as input current limit. The connection is like the picture below, the ISP-ISN voltage is sensed into the control loop to regulate the input current when it triggered input current limit. It's a pity that TPS55288 can't use input current limit like this which I have checked with designer..

    Bryce

  • Thank you very much for the information :-)
