TPS25750: Using MUX for secondary USB device

Part Number: TPS25750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUXHS221

Hi:)

-

When having a second USB2.0 device (e.g. audio codec) in the same system as TPS25750, should a MUX like the TMUXHS221 be used for redirecting the USB Data-Lines (D+/D-), and how should this be implemented?

I have seen designs where the USB Data-Lines (D+/D-) are connected directly to both the TPS25750 and a second USB device, however i do not quite like this approach.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Hi FXtreme,

With the holidays this week, many device experts are currently out of the office. They will look into this and provide you a response when they return. Please expect some delay accordingly.

    Thanks,

  • Hi FXtreme,

The GPIO4(USB_P) and GPIO5(USB_N) pin connections for USB 2.0 are used for BC 1.2 support. They are only active during the initial connection, and are unused after. If you do not need to support BC 1.2, you can leave them disconnected and only connect your second USB 2.0 device.

I have seen designs where the USB Data-Lines (D+/D-) are connected directly to both the TPS25750 and a second USB device, however i do not quite like this approach.

This is the correct way to support the second USB device, assuming it is just the TPS25750 and a second USB 2.0 device on the data lines. As mentioned before, the TPS25750 only uses these lines for BC 1.2 and does not interact with the USB 2.0 data.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
