design Non-Isolated buck converter with uc3843

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC3843, UCC27200, UCC27201

I have designed a buck converter using UC3843  in the following specification,

Vin- 12V to 60V

Vout- 10V

Iout- 200mA

main switch is P type mosfet

The problem is, UC3843 how to driver the P-mosfet in this wide input range..

Please help me to develop a proper design using uc3843 for the above spec.

Regards,

Jack.leung

  • There are a few Design examples of buck converters using a P-Channel switch that may help.  Please refer to the examples given in TI literature number SLVU003A for a discrete drive circuit design or TI literature number SLVU005 for one that uses a driver.  Just enter the TI lit number in the "Search by Key Word" box.  Although these designs do not specificlly use the UC3843, they do have details on component selection that may prove helpful.  Also, you may want to contact the TI Design Services group as they specialize in using released TI components in customer speciic applications

  • Lisa,

      thank you for your reply..

if the main switch is N type Mosfet, how to design driver circuit of Main switch?  floating ground to drive? any example?

    thanks again.

    Jack.

  • If you use N-channel MOSFET, the FET is connected on high-side. To drive the FET, a bootstrap circuit is needed.

There are options on the high-side N-channel FET driver. For example UCC27200 and UCC27201 as well as their improved products of A version. Usually it is convenient to use an existing driver instead of designing your own high-side driver. UCC27200 or UCC27201 is just fit in your design input voltage range.
