TLVM13610: What is the conditions for 10-A peak current of TLMV13610?

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using TLVM13610 for their new products.

They have the following question about the device.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q.
TLVM13610 datasheet says that the device can supply 10-A as a peak current.
What is the condition for 10-A peak current of TLMV13610?
For example, the time of 10-A supplying is 10ms as the maximum.

Hello Kazuya-san,

The device itself can handle 10A dc current but there will be a lot of self heating.

If you looked at the TPSM63610 User's Guide for a 24Vin_5Vout_8A IR camera measurement (https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvucf1a/slvucf1a.pdf#page=11), the results read almost 100degC at room temperature taken after 10 minute in steady state.

If it is a momentary spike in current, then it should not be too much issue given that the typical short circuit high side current limit is 13.8A.

TLVM13610 has low side current limit (8A as the minimum value).
Does this affect to 10A output?

Hello Kazuya-san,

That should not impact the 10A output for 10ms in your application.

Again the 10A peaking was defined so that customers don't go above room temperature for long steady state period.

Given that 10ms is long but not long enough to significant self heating, this should be okay.
