TPS2597: TPS25970ARPW Variation going into latch-off instead of Auto-Retry

Part Number: TPS2597

Hello,

I have implemented the TPS25970ARPW for over current protection at 1.3A. The device goes into current limiting mode when the quiescent current is between 1.28 and 1.32A; however, if the load draws above this current value the device latches off and does not recover until a power cycle is performed. This is unexpected as the device appears to be in the Auto-Retry mode until a certain point where it latches off and shuts down.  I have attached the device schematic for reference.

Any suggestions or comments on why this is happening would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Hi Evan,

Is your nominal VIN=12V? Your OVLO falling is below 12V. It should be above nominal VIN.

During events like overload when device turns off suddenly then VIN can have ringing. Device can go into OVLO, but it will not recover until VIN goes below OVLO falling.

So OVLO falling should be above nominal VIN.
