LM74502: Additional soft-start RC block

Hi,

I am using LM74502 for load dump protection. In the evaluation board, there is an RC block for the FET.

So should I place these components for my project?

Thanks for reaching out to us!

This RC block is present to limit the inrush current if you have high value capacitors at the output. If this functionality is not needed, the RC block can be removed.

At the output side, there is a 100u Electrolytic polymer Capacitor with low ESR (28mOhm). Is that suitable for limiting the inrush current?

Hi Aksoy

It depends on how fast your input voltage rises. Although the ESR will help in limiting the current but can be limited further to whatever value you want using the RC block.
