UCC28070 power factor improvment

We attempt to use CCM PFC UCC28070, this is CCM interleave PFC which can improve ripple currnt but for PF, in genral idea how to increase PF for interleave PFC? do we need to adjust power stage or IC control?

  • Not sure why you are having an issue with PF with the UCC28070?  A PF of 0.9 generally is high enough to meet EN61000-3-2 harmonic requirements.  There is an application note on the web for this device that gives a design example for interleaved PFC.  http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/lit/getliterature.tsp?literatureNumber=slua479b&fileType=pdf

    Following these design techniques a power factor of greater than 0.95 was achieved from 20% load to 100% load with a 115V and a 230V RMS input.  Figure 17 and 18 show the PF that is achieveable with this device.  Not quite sure why you are having an issue achieving PF that is good enough to meet harmonic content requirements.  Maybe your PF specification is too aggressive.
