TLC6983: LED short circuit defect detection

Part Number: TLC6983

When a short occurs for each color in a product designed with 30 SCAN, 30 LEDs light up like GREEN + BLUE.
In this case, it is difficult to find which LED has the short circuit.
I am looking for defects by removing the LEDs one by one. Is there an easier way to find defects?

  • Hi YoungTaek,

in this condition, it's adjacent channels short issue rather than LED short issue. so you can not remove the LED one by one.

which action will you want to take when detect the adjacent pin short?

  • Since the LED (3-IN-1 R, G, B package) is very small, a short circuit occurs between LED pads during SMT.
I was inquiring about this case.

  • Hi Young Taek,

we can display a test pattern after SMT:

light on the channel one by one and watching the LED Panel, once there are two channels lighted that means these two channel shorted.
