LM5017: device burnt

Part Number: LM5017
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5107

Hi team,

Customer use LM5017 in a 48V system. But they found device failure rate has been significantly improved in last six months.

After they analyze, they found the device LM5017 and MP3810A is burnt in their board.(48V-LM5017-5V-MP3810A-3.3V)

This is customer schematic diagram.

Customer give a feedback the following picture is LM5107 Vin pin power-on waveform.

Customer also confused about the uvlo pin. How the device act if the Vin is such a waveform?

  • Hi Minghao

Does Vin waveform designed to be like this or this is caused by the abnormal operation of the circuit?

For the power-on stage, does customer has a waveform for Vin, SW, Vo and Vcc  ?

What's the failure rate? What is the operate condition for the failure to happen and is this repeatable?

    Thank you

  • The Vin waveform is caused by the front power supply, not caused by LM5017.

For the waveform for Vin SW Vo and Vcc, it's hard to test for customer. Because the device failure happens in end customer.

For the failure rate, customer don't calculate. But they sold 20K product in past half year, and there are about 20PCS failure. While in the past two years, 20PCS failure happend in 200K products.

  • Hi Minghao

Currently I saw no problem from the schematic. What's part number is L3 ?

Customer can check the 7.3.9 Undervoltage Detector in Datasheet for the details about the UVLO operation.

What is the customer and the end customer? Did LM5017 and MP3810A both damaged ?

What's the load for LM5017, Is there any chance the Iout jumps from full load to 0 fastly, and the Vo rises to the Vin_abs_max for the MP3810A? It can be helpful to see the waveforms.

    Thanks and best regards.

  • Hi Minghao

I will close this thread for now, Let's focus on email.

    Thanks and best regards.
