Hello,

My client is looking for solutions that can be designed to meet the following conditions:

   - Input voltage: 4V ~ 60V
   - Output power:50W
   - Output Voltage: 5V or 12V

Q1. Is there a device or module that can support the above conditions as an isolation type?

Q2. Is there a device or module that can support the above conditions as an non-isolation type?

Q3. If you have an appropriate design reference for the above conditions, please provide it.

Hi JH,

Thanks for using the e2e forum.
For these specs, they can consider LM5155 (or LM5156) in isolated flyback topology.
A reference design for this can be found here:

This design is for 24W output power, but it is scalable for 50W.

For non isolated solution, the can consider the same devices in SEPIC topology.

(Here they need to pay attention on their higher input voltage range, so they can consider LM5156 for this)

Could you please tell us specifically what needs to be modified to expand to 50W?

Is there any part of the circuit where they need to be careful about heat generation?

Hi JH,

The voltage requirements are the same for both applications, so there is no problem here.
For double the output power, please check:
- Transformer: can it support the peak inductor currents without entering saturation
- Output diode: can it support the output current
- FET: can it support the peak inductor current
- compensation network: does the design still run stable at new max load

To further avoid heat generation, a proper layout with enough copper space to divide the heat is preferable.
