TPS25814: Power Supply for UFP port

Part Number: TPS25814

Hi Team,

I have a few doubts regarding TPS25814 IC.

1). What can I connect to the Uff port?

2). Is the UFP port a power-consuming port or a power-deliver port?

3). Can I connect a pendrive or sink device to the UFP port?

4). If I connect a tablet or mobile phone to the DFP port, will it charge or will it give power to the UFP port?

  • Hi Parth,

The TPS25814EVM is designed to pass-through data from a host source (i.e. laptop, PC) to simulate a Type-C Source DFP port (J2) connected to the TPS25814 device.

1). What can I connect to the Uff port?

The UFP port (J3) is intended to be connected to a downstream host source device (i.e. laptop port).

    2). Is the UFP port a power-consuming port or a power-deliver port?

    It is a sink-only (power-consuming) port.

3). Can I connect a pendrive or sink device to the UFP port?

The UFP (J3) port cannot provide power, any sink-only UFP devices (such as a USB thumb drive) needs to be connected to the DFP port (J2).

4). If I connect a tablet or mobile phone to the DFP port, will it charge or will it give power to the UFP port?

The DFP port (J2) is a 5V source only port, it will charge any devices connected to this port. This port is also routed to the TPS25814 device on the board and is used to simulate a Type-C source only port (similar to a USB-A port that can only provide 5V power and downstream data).

    Thanks and Regards,
    Raymond Lin
