BQ40Z80: Reverse polarity protection on balancing leads

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hello,

We are looking at using the BQ40Z80 in a 4S 1P application where a user could accidentally put a cell in backwards.

In the datasheet absolute maximums for VC1 to VC6 it says that the Minimum voltage for VC1 is VSS-0.3V, If I put a cell in backwards it could see -4V relative to VSS.

Will this damage the chip?

Thanks,

Nate
